Emmie Reviews – Mascara Round Up

Mascara is easily the one beauty product that I wear every single day without fail. Even if I’m rushing out the door, I will take a very quick second to pop some on because it makes such a difference to my face. Over the last couple of months, I have ended up with a few new mascaras in my collection and I have now used them long enough to develop my thoughts about them. So that’s what I’ll be talking about today.

EYEKO LONDON LASH ALERT MASCARA – $37.00
I won’t spend too much time here because this mascara did just feature in my May Favourites. But it really is one of my most beloved mascaras of the moment. One thing I did discover is that this is not only a tubing mascara, it also has ingredients in it that will repair your lashes and help them grow. And I have noticed as of late that my lashes are looking a lot healthier. I won’t be shutting up about this mascara for a while and you all need to try it!

L’OREAL PARADISE EXTATIC MASCARA – $24.95
Before my heart fell hard for the Eyeko mascara, this was top dog in my mascara family and I was using it pretty consistently. It has an hourglass shaped wand which allowed me to reach my inner corner lashes with ease and the formula was rich in black pigment. It is an excellent lengthening and volumising mascara without being too over the top and it wore on me pretty much all day without smudging or flaking. I would definitely recommend this and I will be buying it again.

BENEFIT BAD GAL BANG MASCARA – $42.00
This was probably one of the most hyped makeup releases of this year so far and when I posted on Instagram that I had bought it, I had a lot of people wanting to know if I liked this mascara. Short answer, no. Long answer, the wand is really long and uncomfortable to use, it doesn’t separate my lashes all that well, so my lashes would look clumpy. Lengthened, but clumpy. When I don’t wear a full face of makeup, it smudges. When I do wear a full face of makeup, it flakes. But the dealbreaker for me is that the formula irritates my eyes. Which is actually a common problem with Benefit mascaras. I know that a lot of people love this mascara, it just wasn’t for me.

MODELCO POWER LASH MASCARA – $19.95
I have a long history of not being wild about ModelCo mascaras (The Fat Lash mascara is one of my least favourite mascaras of all time), but this came with a recent issue of InStyle magazine and I thought ‘what the hell, lets give this a go’. Yeah, no, this was a pass for me. I didn’t mind it at first because the formula was nice and black, the wand wasn’t overly big and it did lengthen somewhat. But one hour in, I noticed that it had transferred on to my eyelids. By the end of the day, it had flaked and smudged on my undereye area. I tried it a few more times but the formula is too wet and it takes too long to dry down properly. I have other mascaras that I like better so this one is going bye bye.

And those are the mascaras that are currently in use in my makeup collection. Definitely some winners and loser there. Let me know what your current favourite mascara is. I’m always looking for new ones to try.
