I’ve mentioned before here on Emmie’s Beauty Life that I tend to do a lot of research before I drop my hard earned coin on any beauty product. And one of my favourite places to look for suggestions is Instagram. I follow a lot of amazing bloggers and makeup artists on there and when they give the thumbs up to something, I usually listen. So I have decided to start a new series telling you guys about the products other bloggers ‘made me buy’ and whether or not I love them as much as they do. So, if you want to see what my fellow bloggers have been loving, just keep reading!
DERMALOGICA CLEAR START OIL CLEARING MATTE MOISTURISER SPF 15 – $35.50
RECOMMENDED BY: AndThatsJacob
I’d been in the market for a new moisturiser for a while. And when I saw Jacob mention this numerous times on both his YouTube page and his Instagram, I decided to give it a go. Dermalogica is a brand that I have had a lot of success with in the past. And while the Clear Start range is more targeted towards younger people, I figured that it would be a good moisturiser for the summer months when my skin is still a bit oily.
MY THOUGHTS: It’s a very lightweight mousturiser that soaks into the skin so easily. It’s quite runny as well so a little does go a long way. And the SPF (small as it is) is better than nothing. In all honesty, I loved this when I first started using it. But now that the seasons have changed and my skin is changing more and more, I am finding that this isn’t quite enough hydration for me and I am adding a few drops of beauty oil just to give me the added boost. If you’re oily skinned and maybe five years younger than me, you’ll probably love this. But I might go for something a bit better suited for my skin.
NARS SKIN DEEP PALETTE – $90.00
RECOMMENDED BY: On A Beauty Bender
If I have made a Nars purchase recently, you can be certain that Camille over at On A Beauty Bender is the reason why. She has such a love for the brand and when she reviewed the Skin Deep palette, it definitely planted the seed of me inevitably buying this.
MY THOUGHTS: Well, this did just end up in my May favourites. But I don’t think I really emphasized just how good the quality of these shadows are. The shimmers are so creamy and they go on the eye beautifully. The mattes have surprisingly little kickback when I dip my brush in. At the end of the day, this is a ridiculously easy palette to use and the only reason why I’m not using it now is because I have a bunch of palettes I should really be reviewing.
*Em’s note – This palette is now sold out online but it might still be available in stores*
IT COSMETICS YOUR SKIN BUT BETTER CC CREAM OIL FREE MATTE – $61.00
RECOMMENDED BY: Lipstick & Linguine
Rosa over at Lipstick & Linguine was one of the first Aussie Bloggers I saw get her hands on the Matte version of the ever popular IT Cosmetics CC Cream. And when she gave it a pretty dang glowing review, I quickly added it to my list of things to try! I had been reluctant to try the original formula for a while so a matte version was right up my alley.
MY THOUGHTS: Yeah, I love this too. I will definitely say it’s not as matte as I thought it would be. But what it does do really well is control oil. Especially around my nose and chin which is where I get the most oily these days. The finish is gorgeous. Nice and natural. And it lasts on my skin pretty much all day without me needing to touch up much.
MECCA MAX SUNLIT SKIN BRONZER – $40.00
RECOMMENDED BY: The Black and White Guide
Another Aussie Blogger who is responsible for me spending heaps of money. I’ve been reading Ebony’s blog for many years and when she recommends something, it’s only a matter of time before I pick it up for myself. And one of her favourites is the Mecca Max Sunlit Skin Bronzer. She’s mentioned it many times on the past so when I was in the need for a new bronzer, I was quick to buy it.
MY THOUGHTS: Wow! This bronzer is so easy to use. It comes in three shade (I use the light one) and I can very quickly blend this out and head out the door. It has the slightest of sheens to it, but it’s not too glowy or shimmery and it’s the perfect tone for me. A definite favourite.
REVLON SCULPT AND HIGHLIGHT CONTOUR KIT – $24.95
RECOMMENDED BY: Rachel Beauty Style
The Sculpt and Highlight palette got a lot of attention when it launched back in 2016 because it was developed in collaboration with Chloe Morello. But it was a review done by Rachel over at Rachel Beauty Style that made me pick it up and give at a go. She raved about the contour powder in particular so I was very excited to try.
MY THOUGHTS: This has been a quiet favourite of mine for years and I almost treat it like my little secret. I love the versatility of this palette. The banana powder is one of my favourite banana powders period (and I’m normally not a fan). It’s not obnoxiously yellow and it does a great job of brightening the undereye area. The bronze shade is perfect for my skin tone and both it and the contour powder are often used as a quick eyeshadow for me. But the highlighter is the real standout of this palette. To the point where I really wish that Revlon would release it separately. It’s the most gorgeous subtle glow that looks natural on the skin.
And that’s just a very small sample of the things that Instagram got me to buy! What can I say, I’m very easily influenced by pretty makeup. What was your last purchase that was influenced by Instagram? And have I influenced you to buy anything? I would love to know!
Cheers and love
