Emmie Reviews – Kosas Soul Gazer Mascara

Posted on September 5, 2025September 5, 2025 by emmiesbeautylifeadmin

Almost 5 years ago, I reviewed the first mascara launch from Kosas, the Big Clean Mascara. Cliffs Note’s version, it didn’t go well. But I’m all about giving brands second chances. And when I was told by some of my blogger friends that Kosas was reentering the mascara game with the new Soul Gazer Mascara, it landed in my cart at record speed when it came to Mecca last month. I’ve had a few weeks to play around with it and I’m ready to share my thoughts. So, let’s review the dang thing!

KOSAS SOUL GAZER MASCARA – $49.00 – mecca.com.au

Starting with the packaging, the Soul Gazer Mascara is housed in a lightweight, rectangular style tube with beveled edges. The packaging is a chrome purple with deeper purple detail. It fits in nicely with Kosas’s range, which has a large emphasis on bright colours and fun vibes. The Soul Gazer Mascara is vegan, cruelty free, and contains 10.5ml of product. There is also a mini version available from Kosas’s retailers ($28.00 for 6.5ml).

After a string of straight, conical brush heads, it delights me to no end that the Soul Gazer Mascara is a style that I know and adore. The Soul Gazer brush is a molded brush head, hourglass in shape, with multi length bristles that go along the brush. I particularly like the fact that the brush head is more bulbous at the top and base. The molded curved edges are great for reaching my lower lashes. My favourite thing about this brush though is that it’s a great size for my eye shape. It’s not too big, but it can still reach all of my lashes comfortably.

The main selling point of the Soul Gazer Mascara is that it’s not only a mascara, it’s a lash serum as well. The big ingredient they are shouting out is something called Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17. A peptide that according to Kosas, not only supports lash health, but will lengthen lashes within 6-8 weeks. Now, I haven’t worn it long enough to see those kinds of benefits, but what I will say is that it’s a lovely, weightless formula with a deep black pigment that dries down surprisingly quickly.

Ok, let’s get the obvious out of the way, if you’re a fan of mascaras that give your lashes all of the length and volume, you might want to sit this one out. On me, personally, I didn’t get a ton of length even with two coats. Where this mascara does excel, though, is in the lift and definition department. The wand for the Soul Gazer Mascara really does pick up every single lash that you have. And you get the effect of fullness without a ton of volume. And as I mentioned previously, the formula is very lightweight and dries down quickly, setting the mascara in place almost like hairspray. In my opinion, this is definitely a mascara for the natural makeup folks.

But how does it hold up? I hear you ask. Pretty bloody well, if you ask me. Listen, the Soul Gazer Mascara only had one hurdle to clear with me. Please don’t smudge or flake. And it soared over that hurdle the first time I wore it. True story, I popped this on for the first time on a random Saturday, did my weekend chores uptown, came home and took a 3 hour long nap. After I woke up, I expected to see a flakey mess. Not the Soul Gazer Mascara! This stayed in place for the entire day. I was gobsmacked! The lift even held well throughout the day (you can see the TikTok I made to demonstrate that). Overall, I’m blown away by how good this is.

All in all, I do give the Kosas Soul Gazer Mascara a thumbs up and my recommendation. I know that it’s a pricey option, but for easy makeup days where you just want to keep the eyes simple, this is an amazing option. The fullness and lift easily sold me. The overall wear is a bonus! Have you tried the Kosas Soul Gazer Mascara? Let me know in the comments.

Cheers and love
