Righty-O, in something of an Uno reverse of the last mascara that I reviewed, the Lash Sensational range from Maybelline has been a long standing favourite of mine. I’ve been through countless tubes of the original. And the Sky High Mascara is an all timer in this household. So when I saw that Maybelline had launched a new addition to the range, it shot straight to the top of my review list. I’ve spent the last few weeks playing with it and, well, it’s been interesting to say the least. Let’s get into this review, because I have a lot to say about this one.

MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL BODY MASCARA – $28.99

Starting with the packaging, this is something of a departure from Lash Sensational’s standard packaging. The Lash Sensational range is usually a soft, pearlescent pink with black detail. The Body Mascara is a soft beige with white and metallic rose gold detail in a slimline cylindrical tube. A style of packaging tha Maybelline has been favouring these days. I will say that even with the beige, it stands out amongst Maybelline’s mascara range. The Body Mascara contains 9.75ml of product.

The wand for the Body Mascara does appear to be the big selling point. They describe it as a Body Curve brush. With the molded brush narrowing towards the middle. The bristles are longer in the middle as a result, allowing the lashes to get maximum grip and product distribution. The bristles narrow towards the rounded tip, which I personally enjoy. As it allows me to reach my inner lashes far more easily without making a mess.

The formula for the Body Mascara does seem to be a pretty standard Maybelline Mascara formula. No major bells or whistles as far as lash improving ingredients go. On the positive side, the formula is very rich in black pigment and feels very lightweight on the lashes. On the other hand, this was a very dry formula that was even quicker to set down. And I do occasionally find it a little difficult to remove even with an old based cleanser. Something to keep in mind.

The main claims for the Body Mascara is that it’s supposed to give full body lashes with maximum volume and 24hr hold on lift. Right off the bat, I was super impressed with how my lashes looked when I applied it for the first time. The lift was the first thing I noticed. My lashes were looking super long, fluffy, and fluttery. There was a good amount of separation and definition. But the thing that really stood out for me was the volume. The formula coated my lashes very evenly and they made them look so full. I was extremely impressed to start…

But then I had to wear the mascara throughout the day and that’s when things went straight to hell. And I’ve been reviewing mascaras long enough to know that this formula was going to be a problem. And I was devastated because this mascara looks amazing at the start. This got everywhere on my eyes. Particularly around the outer corner of my eyelid. But I also had some good old fashion transfer under the eyes too. And if you look especially closely on my right eye, you can see a few little crumbles that have settled there too. Worst of all, this made my lashes droop so quickly. So, so much for that 24 hour lift.
All in all, I think I can say that the Lash Sensational Body Mascara is a skip. There are better mascaras in the range that do what they’re supposed to do without budging (Sky High IMMEDIATELY springs to mind). Have you tried the Maybelline Lash Sensational Body Mascara? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
