Well, I said in my Maybelline Lumi Matte review last year that I was going to pick up my game and review more Maybelline foundations. And this year has given me the perfect opportunity with the newly released Maybelline Lifter Plump & Glow Foundation. I’ve seen a lot of positive buzz around this one. Particularly from my fellow bloggers who swear by it. So, I figured it should make it’s way into my review stash. I’ve spent a little while playing with this one behind the scenes. And now all that’s left is the review. So, let’s get into it!

MAYBELLINE LIFTER PLUMP & GLOW FOUNDATION – $34.99 – chemistwarehouse.com.au
*18 Shades Available*

Kicking us off with the packaging, the Lifter Foundation is housed in a sleek, clear, rectangular glass bottle. Pretty much the same style a the iconic Fit Me bottle. There is rose gold detail on the bottle itself and a plastic soft pink cap on top. It’s pretty standard fair for Maybelline and fits in well with their Lifter line. The Lifter Foundation contains 30ml of product.

The Lifter Foundation is dispensed via a pump mechanism at the top of the bottle. The pump is plastic and seemingly well made. I am yet to experience any leakage with this foundation. The pump is on the stiffer side. It doesn’t pump out a ton of product all at once. Which is a good thing if you ask me.

Ok, here’s where things start to get complicated. When I was researching the shade range, I found that it was kind of all over the place. Australia and the UK has 18 shades of the Lifter Foundation. Where the US has 24 shades. Pretty standard fair, Maybelline and L’Oreal as a whole tends to not send the entire range of foundations out internationally (which they should, but that’s a different story). However, there are shades in the Australia/UK range that aren’t available in the US in particular. And obviously a larger range of shades not available in Australia /UK. Realistically, there should be 32 shades in the entire range. Why they aren’t releasing the whole range everywhere is anyone’s guess.
As for the shades themselves, it’s not great. Many of the shades lean fair to light. With there only being 3-4 shades available for deeper skin tones. None of those shades are available in Australia. I wear shade 114, one of the Australia exclusives. And it’s a shockingly good match. I have a harder time with Maybelline foundations these days. But this one is a good undertone for me and blends well.

As far as application goes, I did have a slightly difficult time at first. Despite the texture being thicker than you would expect for a foundation that is promoted as glowy, this doesn’t want to play nicely with a brush or a sponge. I found that I got the best finish from dotting the product all over my face and then blending in with my fingers. The warmth really helping the product smooth over evenly.
The Lifter Foundation is described as being a medium buildable coverare with a radiant finish. For me, personally, I would say that it’s on the lighter side of medium coverage. Enough to cover up my lighter pigmentation. But not enough coverage to cover up anything darker. My dark spots and freckles are still slightly visible. As for radiant finish, yeah, I would say that. It’s luminous without ever dipping into Tin Man territory. I do lose some of that glow with powder (and gain a little extra coverage). But it’s very comfortable.

But now it’s time for the wear test! And I have to say, immediately impressed. I still very much hold the assumption in my head that the glowier the foundation, the worse the wear is going to be throughout the day. But the Lifter Foundation boasts an all day wear and it means it. My skin looks fantastic after 10 hour of wear. It doesn’t sink into my lines or pores. The glow is still there without looking overly shiny. It hasn’t faded or broken down anywhere. I’m definitely impressed!
All in all, I’ll happily give a thumbs up to the Maybelline Lifter Plump & Glow Foundation. It’s been a while since I was this excited by a drugstore foundation. And if you can find a shade that works for you, I say pick it up. Especially when it’s half price. Have you tried the Maybelline Lifter Plump & Glow Foundation? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
