You know, for all of the mascaras that I’ve reviewed over the last eight years (it has to be well over 100 at this point), I never seen to ever review mascara flankers. The spin offs of more popular mascaras, if you will. But a few months back, I had quite a few requests to test out the new(ish) Rimmel Mega Lift Mascara. And seeing that it’s a spin off of the Thrill’Seeker Mascara (a best in beauty winner), I was intrigued enough to give it a go for myself. I’ve spent the last few weeks using it behind the scenes. Now, all that’s left to do is see whether it’s worth the hype!

RIMMEL LONDON THRILL’SEEKER MEGA LIFT MASCARA – $26.95 – chemistwarehouse.com.au

Starting with the packaging, the Mega Lift Mascara is housed in a cylindrical tube style packaging. The tube is a bold matte red with embossed gold detail. It’s similar in vibe to the original Thrill’Seeker, but perhaps a bit more garish. Having said that, I like it! The Mega Lift Mascara is vegan, cruelty free, and contains 10ml of product.

The wand for the Mega Lift Mascara is one that I don’t see all the often anymore. It’s almost reminiscent of an upside down ice cream cone (Rimmel calls it an arrow shape. I think ice cream is more whimsical). Where it’s more wide and rounded at the base, and narrows to a fine tip at the end. The wider base is good for the outer lashes while the finer tip is ideal for the lower and inner corner lashes. The bristles are synthetic fibers and while they are a little firm, they still allow enough wiggle to evenly coat the lashes with product.

The formula for the Mega Lift Mascara is on the thicker side. Unsurprising seeing as this is supposed to be a volumising formula. It’s described as being a Megafueled Hybrid Wax Texture. There are also copolymers to help adhere the product to the lashes. The pigment is very rich and black. Rimmel has always excelled there. One notable thing is the formula is very light weight and has a good timed dry down. Making it easy to layer and build up.

Upon initial application, I was immediately impress at how much lift I got from this mascara (I know, a mascara called Mega Lift is good at lifting? Alert the presses!). It mostly surprised me because lift and volume from my experience tend to not go hand in hand. And this mascara is definitely volumising. Not so much that they look super dense and heavy. But certainly noticeable. The other thing that I noticed was how much definition and separation I got. The brush was fantastic for picking up and separating every lash to create a fanned effect.

But let’s chat wear test. And it ended up accidentally being a good day to test this mascara out (two of my fics updated and they were both tearjerkers!). Right off the bat, I had no noticeable transfer, smudging, or flaking under my eyes or on my eyelids. So, points there to start. As for the lashes themselves, I have to say that they wore so much better than I expected them to. The lift I started with was still very much there at the end of the day. And while I did lose a but of the volume throughout the day (where it went, I have no idea), my lashes were still in a state that I was extremely happy with after nine hours of wear.
All in all, the Rimmel Thrill’Seeker Mega Lift Mascara gets a thumbs up from me. It’s by far the best drugstore mascara I’ve tried this year. Heck, I might like it a little bit better than the OG! If you ever spot this one on you travels, I definitely recommend you try it for yourself. Have you tried the Rimmel Thrill’Seeker Mega Lift Mascara? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
