Oh well, time to do this again. Now that the old stash is out, and the new stash is in. It means it’s time to chat about the standouts of that last stash. And I have to say, I had a harder time than normal picking which five products I wanted to talk about. My last stash actually had quite a few winners in the mix that I ended up really loving. And one or two products that stood out for not so good reasons. So, let’s chat about them!
ABOUT FACE THE ILLUSIONIST CONCEALER – $44.00
Of the two concealers I had in my last stash, this was the one I had the higher hopes for. And oh boy, did it deliver! As it stands right now, this is my concealer of the year. Texture wise, it’s very similar to my beloved Swipe Concealer. That thin, serum like consistency that I love so much. But the coverage is crazy good. A little bit goes a very long way with it. Best of all, this stuff does not budge on me at all. No creasing, no emphasising texture, just incredible wear! This is my third out and out winner from About Face and as far as I’m concerned, their Australian launch cannot come soon enough.
WET ‘N WILD PHOTO FOCUS LOOSE SETTING POWDER in PINK – $16.16*
I am always on the hunt for a solid, affordable loose powder. And I was recently sent this one from Wet ‘n Wild to give a go (shout out Beauty Next Australia!). In all honesty, this is one of the better ones that I’ve tried. It’s not as finely milled as some of the higher end powders I’ve come across (this one is actually a corn starch based powder). But it does perform well and has a nice, light blurring effect to the skin. And the tone of pink isn’t too brightening for me.
REVLON PHOTO READY LIFTING BROW GEL – $28.00
This is the first of two products I have in this line up where my beef isn’t with the product itself, it’s with the packaging. The product here in and of itself is good. Maybe not the best for holding. But the tint is nice and it doesn’t leave my brows feeling crunchy. My issue is with the brush. It’s way too long, and while it doesn’t hold a ton of product, it can get said product everywhere unless I’m super precise. If the brush was maybe half the size, I would recommend it. Also, the separate finnicky comb on top is superfluous and unneeded.
WESTMAN ATELIER SUN TONE BRONZING CREAM in SHADE 1 – $123.00
And here is the other one! As far as the product itself, I really, really enjoy this one. I certainly had a preference for the lighter of the two shades most days. But I would also mix them to create my perfect bronze shade for when I wanted something a little deeper. Definitely more of a natural bronze finish for me and very buildable. Do you need to own this and the contour stick? Probably not (and in all honesty, I like the contour stick a little bit better). But for a splurge, it’s very good. Having said that, the packaging is a nightmare. It is very aesthetically pleasing like all of Westman Atelier’s products. But Jesus Christ, I’ve chipped two nails trying to get into it, the magnet is that strong. This is why I keep a nail file close at hand.
MAC SKINFINISH COLOURSTRUCK BLUSH in THANKS, IT’S MAC – $50.00
And here might just be my most controversial opinion of the day. I like this formula more than the original, talc filled, MAC blush formula. Like, this is a legitimately improved formula. They are so much easier to pick up with a brush and the blend is seamless. This shade, Thanks, It’s MAC, was pretty much my go to blush for a few weeks there. It pairs with pretty much every makeup look. Such a stunning, natural flush of colour. I am heavily encouraged to try more of them.
