So, turns out I’m doing something of a fragrance week here on Emmie’s Beauty Life. But I was talking with a fragrance loving friend not that long ago, and we were discussing our fragrance capsule collections. Basically, the fragrance we always have on hand no matter the occasion or mood. It made me think of a post I did a few years ago where I shared the first five fragrances I would immediately repurchase were I to lose my entire collection (and trust, my collection is MUCH LARGER than when I did the post originally). Now, it’s been over two years since I did that initial post. My tastes have changed considerably since then. So, I figured it would be a fun one to revisit. Which five perfumes would I immediately replace if I were to lose everything.
Now, as always, we have some ground rules to cover. Mostly they are the same rules I set for myself the last time I did this. First, no fragrances sent in PR (not that I get that many anyway). I want the perfume I repurchase to be ones I spent my hard earned money on already. Second, nothing that was limited edition (sorry, Mr Jacobs). Thirdly, no discontinued fragrances (though full disclosure, I did bend the rules with this one a teeny bit this time around). Now, that we are up to speed, let’s get into this!

KAYALI YUM PISTACHIO GELATO 33 – $179.00 for 50ml
NOTES – Top: Pistachio, Bergamot, Ice Cream, Hazelnut, Rum, Cardamon. Middle: Lily Of The Valley, Peony, Pear, Jasmine, Geranium, White Peach, Raspberry. Base: Whipped Cream, Marshmallow, Cotton Candy, Turkish Delight, Tonka Bean, Sandalwood, Cedar, Cacao.
Yum Pistachio Gelato has the distinction of being the sole fragrance that I’m carrying over from the last time I did a list like this. And the fact that Pistachio Gelato is still my favourite Kayali fragrance three years later is a damn impressive feat. It’s one of the few that I have repurchased more than once. I have a 10ml in my handbag so I always have it at an easy reach. it just makes me so damn happy whenever I wear it. Now, I won’t lie, a handful of Kayali’s more recent launches have come close. But as far as wear time, projection, and the sheer joy that this scent gives me, nothing is beating it and I’m lowkey scared for the day where this does get bumped from my top spot.

SETSUNA PERFUMES IN LOVE SOMEDAY PERFUME ELIXIR – $120.00
NOTES – Top: Candied Iris. Middle: Vanilla Milkshake. Base: Marshmallow
This is the marshmallow fragrance to which all other marshmallow fragrances get judged against. A soft, sticky, sugary vanilla marshmallow with a hint of florals from the iris at the top note. With projection and wear time that destroys some of my long time favourites. Easily my most complimented perfume in my collection. I would consider this a must own for the gourmand girlies. Also, it’s an Aussie brand and you know I have to support those!
*Em’s Note* This is the fragrance that I am bending my rules for. As In Love Someday has recently been both repackaged and reformulated. I do plan on purchasing the updated version when I run out of this. And I’m sure that it’s place in my top rankings will not change.

FRENCH COWBOY VANILLA FOR BREAKFAST – €90.00 for 100ml
NOTES – Almond Milk, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Benzoin
I know, I know. I just got this less than three months ago. There are other vanilla’s that I’ve had in my collection for much longer that I have loved. But there aren’t that many vanilla’s that have completely rewired my brain like Vanilla For Breakfast has. I mean, look at the dent I have put into this already? It’s such a wholly unique scent to me. The almond keeps it from being too cloyingly sweet. But once it wears down, it’s vanilla all day, baby. I will not shut up about this one and you will hear me talk about it again come January.

DEDCOOL FRAGRANCE NO. 1 “TAUNT” – $148.00 for 50ml
NOTES – Top: Dew Drop, Bergamot. Middle: Floral Notes, Cassis. Base: Vanilla, Amber
Now, I will concede that my first three picks are my gourmand heavy hitters. But I do need some options that are more workplace friendly. And for me, Dedcool Taunt easily threads the needle of being just vanilla enough to get me in a good mood. But it’s not such an assault to the nostrils that it irritates my coworkers (and considering one of my coworkers gave birth to me, probably good to stay on their good side). Like Pistachio Gelato, this is a fragrance that I have actively repurchased multiple times. And it really does suit any occasion. But I get the most wear out of it during the summer. It’s so light and airy.

GLOSSIER YOU – $53.00 for 8ml
NOTES – Iris, Pink Pepper, Ambroxan, Ambrette
Listen, it was between this and Ellis Brooklyn Super Amber for the fifth place spot. And seeing as Ellis Brooklyn has made the cruel and unhinged decision to discontinue Super Amber and there is no way on God’s green Earth that Glossier is getting rid of their flagship fragrance, You it is then! You is another in the series of ‘I keep this in my handbag at all times’ fragrances that I literally chuck on whenever I forget to put another fragrance on before I leave the house. It is the textbook definition of a skin scent for me. The lightest hint of florals compliment the soft amber notes. There is a reason why this is such a fan favourite to this day.
And that is a wrap on my top shelf fragrances. Now that you know my tastes, you can shop for me accordingly! Let me know in the comments what five fragrances you would consider to be must haves in the comments.
Cheers and love
Emily xo
