Seeing as I’m still indoors for the foreseeable future, I decided this past weekend to succumb to the inevitable and finally clean my makeup brushes. It’s been a while since I ran you guys through how I clean them now and I’ve added a few new techniques to my brush cleaning routine. So, if you want to get inspired to clean your brushes, just keep reading!
OK, these are the things that I use in my brush cleaning routine.
Brushes (obviously)
A brush cleanser of some description. I was using the now discontinued Mac Brush Cleanser. I’m now using the Beauty Blender Solid ($25.00 – sephora.com.au). Quick review. It’s pricey for what it is, but dang, it’s really effective! I especially love this for the brushes that I use for my more cream based products. Also, I’ve used this multiple times and I’m yet to put a dent it in.
A brush cleansing egg – That’s right, this baby is still going strong!
A towel to rest your brushes on/dry you brushes off on
OPTIONAL – A brush drying rack. My Husband bought this for me from Amazon and they are really inexpensive.
Now, let us brush clean!
STEP ONE
Gather your brushes and spread them out on the towel.
STEP TWO
Grab a brush and show it to a running tap. You want to make sure that you just show the bristles and not the whole brush.
STEP THREE
Show the moistened brush to the Beauty Blender Solid and work the soap in well.
STEP FOUR
Gently rub the bristles on the cleansing egg. Again, I stress being gentle while doing this otherwise you’ll cause fraying in your finer brushes.
STEP FIVE
Rinse out the soap under the tap, gently dry off bristles and reshape.
STEP SIX
Dry brushes either on a drying rack on just on a towel in a sunny position.
STEP SEVEN
Repeat!
And now, I can rest, for my brushes are finally clean. Go forth this weekend and clean your brushes if you haven’t already! And if you have any secret tips on how you clean your brushes, let me know in the comments below!
Cheers and love
Emmie xo
