Happy Friday everyone! We are back with another mascara review. And this one is a doosy! Today, I’ll be reviewing for you the Huda Beauty Legit Lashes Mascara.
When Huda Kattan first launched her brand back in 2013, she started with false lashes that are now beloved the world over. But she had always expressed interest in creating the perfect mascara. And so, she would spend the next five years researching and developing before launching the Legit Lashes Mascara last year. And this one has it’s own little twist. She didn’t just create a mascara. She created two mascaras in one!
Now, I’m a huge Huda stan, but I remember sideeyeing this mascara when it first launched because I’ve always thought that dual ended mascaras are a little gimmicky (there is a reason why this is the first one I’ve ever reviewed for the blog). But eventually, curiosity got the better of me (also, a 20% off deal didn’t hurt). I picked it up back in April and I’ve been testing it behind the scenes for the last three weeks. So, how does the Legit Lashes stack up? Keep on reading to find out!

The Huda Beauty Legit Lashes mascara is housed in one of the more uniquely shaped tubes that I’ve seen. It’s triangular, but beveled along the edges, so when it’s on it’s side, it looks like a diamond. Which I have to admit, is very Huda. Aesthetically, it fits in well with the rest of the Huda Beauty line. The Legit Lashes Mascara is cruelty free and contains 8.5ml of product per side, totaling 17ml.
I’ll start with the Volume side first. It has a rubberised wand and is conical in shape. With the bristles reaching the top of the wand, allowing me to reach the inner corner of my eye area with ease. I quite liked the size of this brush. Not too big, not too small. This was the side I generally preferred using on it’s own.
The Curl and Length side however is drastically different. The wand on the Curl and Length side is crescent shaped with rubberised bristles. The bristles appear to be fairly uniform in size. And while it’s a little on the long side for my liking, this is a good wand for reaching the lower lashes.
It’s worth noting that the Legit Lashes Mascara has two different formulas for each brush. The Volume side (left) is intensely black and quite thick in consistency. While the Curl and Length is thinner and more fibrous (both sides use fibers in their formula). I also noted that the Curl and Length formula is a little less intense in colour.
It’s applying the two formula’s separately to the lashes that the differences become apparent. The Volume side (Left) absolutely adds a noticeable about of volume and intensity to the lashes. While the Curl and Length side (Right) lifts the lashes up with ease while also adding a good amount of length. The wider side of the Curl and Length brush also made it easy to reach the base of my lashes. Both sides created a significant difference in comparison to my bare lashes.
And now, the fun bit. Combining the two sides! Right off the bat, this is such an easy mascara to layer (thank god). According to the Huda Beauty website, the preferred method is to start with the Volume side and then while the formula is still wet on the lashes, go in with the Curl and Length side. I, however, am a rebel, and would more often than not start with the Curl and Length side. Fortunately, it didn’t make much difference. This mascara is a breeze to apply and from the perspective, I have no complaints.

After wearing this mascara in every possible way that I can, I have thoughts. Firstly, the good news, This mascara feels so lightweight on the lashes. And it basically looks the same at the end of the day as it does at the start. I have no significant drooping that I could see. And I would get compliments of my lashes while I was at work.
If I had one significant nit pick, the formula does transfer on my lower lash area. It’s not as noticeable in the above pictures, but it is in real life. And while it’s not the worst transfer a mascara has given me, for the price this is, I would expect little to no transfer at all. I did also notice on the occasions where I combined the two formulas that I would get the occasional flake of fiber. Which is annoying. Fortunately, the fibers never made their way into my eyes. Nor did I find the formula irritating in any way.
Huda does mention that the Legit Lashes mascara isn’t a waterproof mascara. And one of the positives is that this is an easy mascara to remove. I more often than not rinse it off in the shower and then follow up with my Face Halo to get the rest off.
So, this is tough. There are a lot of really great qualities for this mascara. But the fact that it transfers on me is enough to not strongly recommend the Legit Lashes Mascara. Again, I need to stress, it’s far from the worst mascara that I’ve ever tried. But it is pricey and I have drugstore mascaras that don’t budge on me at all. If you do want to try the Legit Lashes mascara for yourself, may I recommend that you a) wait for a sale and b) buy it directly from the Huda Beauty website (it’s $11 cheaper there than Sephora Australia). The packaging looks really substantial and the brushes look really good. I agree, for the price, I wouldn’t want transfer either, especially if drug store mascaras don’t budge on you.
