After reviewing three high end mascara’s in a row, I figured it was time to return to my drugstore roots. And my timing couldn’t be more perfect. There has been a recent explosion of new mascara releases as of late. And the one that caught my attention the quickest was the newest launch from Rimmel. The Wonder’Extension Mascara! I’ve spent the last few weeks putting it through it’s paces and I have a ton of thoughts. So, if you want to know if the newest launch from Rimmel is as wonderful as they say, just keep reading!
RIMMEL LONDON WONDER’EXTENSION MASCARA – $21.95 – priceline.com.au
The packaging of the Wonder’Extension Mascara is very inline with many of the mascara’s in Rimmel’s range. It’s that unique ovular shape that kind of tapers at both ends. One thing I do like is the colouring of the packaging. The pink, silver, and blue is very visually striking (Rimmel says Trans Rights?). The Wonder’Extension Mascara contains 11ml of product.

However, when I saw the wand in person for the first time, my heart immediately sank. I’ve spoken quite a bit about brushes I love. But the Wonder’Extension Mascara is a prime example of a brush that I truly despise. It’s a rubberised wand and the bristles are long, spaced out, and pointed at the tips. It’s very reminiscent of the Benefit They’re Real mascara in that it’s a hard wand to maneuver and if you accidentally poke yourself in the eye (which I do often), you’re going to have a bad time.
The formula is decent. The pigment is nice and rich in colour. The formula is definitely more on the creamy side. When I pull the wand out, it curls on top of the brush like a soft serve. The only issue I had with this formula was that it set down quickly, which made layering difficult.
When I first applied this mascara, my first thought was ‘where is the flavour?’ While it did make my lashes black and added some volume, it didn’t do much of anything else. I also found that I had to comb it through a few times to help with the separation. Because the formula is so creamy, if I didn’t scrape the brush off well, my lashes could get a little clumpy. Overall, I wasn’t impressed right off the bat.
As far as the wear goes, I mean? I’ve tried worse wearing mascara’s over the years. But this one still isn’t great. As always, the main culprit is the good old smudgy eye. Mostly it transferred under the eye, not as much on the lid. I also had some flaking issues on the occasions where I tried to layer this mascara. And to add to the fun, the flakes would fall into my eye, causing some mild irritation.
So yeah, definitely not a fan of the Rimmel Wonder’Extension Mascara. And it’s one that I won’t be recommending. It’s a genuine shame too because a) I’ve had a lot of luck with Rimmel mascara’s in the past. And b) this has been a very popular mascara online right now. But I guess you can’t win them all. Have you tried the Rimmel Wonder’Extension Mascara? Let me know in the comments below.
Cheers and love
