Well folks, spring is done, Christmas is right around the corner. And that can only mean one thing. 2021 is finally almost over *thank god*. It has actually been an eventful few months at Emmie’s Beauty Life HQ. I went on my first real holiday with my husband since we got married. The Instagram Algorithm Gods have blessed me all the way to 4000 followers (no, seriously, thank you all). And I finally managed to get my hands on a cast iron French Pan!
Ok, maybe it hasn’t been that exciting. But the five products that I have to talk about today have been the absolute stand outs of my collection at the moment. And I can’t wait to share them all with you. So, let’s get to chatting!
SSAINT PARFUM SMOKESHOW EAU DE PARFUM – $109.00
This came super close to being in my Winter favourites. But because I had just bought it maybe a week before that post went out, I wanted to hold out and make sure I actually loved it. And to answer Past Emily’s question. You smashed through that 10ml bottle in record time and immediately bought the larger size. I have never felt a way about a perfume like I do this one. It’s such a unique, warm, inviting scent. It’s spicy, smokey and sweet all at the same time. I picked this up at a boutique here in town, but SSAINT does appear to ship Australia wide.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY EASY EYES PALETTE in SUPER NUDES – $85.00
I’m not entirely sure that this is my favourite eyeshadow palette. But it’s by far the one I used the most since I picked it up back in September. I mean, what an amazing basics palette! This is actually a newer formula for Charlotte Tilbury. The mattes are so much creamier and easy to blend out (not that they aren’t already easy). The big, noticeable difference however is the wear time. For whatever reason, these shadows last so much longer on the eye than the original formula.
ROSE INC. BLUSH DIVINE RADIANT LIP & CHEEK COLOUR in HELIOTROPE – $43.00
We had a few major brands make their way down under over the last few months. One of the quieter launches however was Rose Inc, owned by the incredible Rose Huntington-Whiteley. Now, there are quite a few standouts in the line. But when I saw that there were cream blushes, I knew I had to have at leasst one of them! And oh my goddess, it is worth every penny! It gives the most beautiful, yet natural flush of colour to the cheeks. And the formula just melts into the skin. Do not be surprised when you see me hype this up again in around 6 weeks time.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY HOLLYWOOD CONTOUR LIGHT WAND in LIGHT TO MEDIUM – $60.00
You know what? I sincerely didn’t want to like this product. The Hollywood Contour Wand is by far one of the most hyped beauty products out there, it’s borderline impossible to get a hold of because it’s always selling out. I really wanted to use it and be like ‘meh’ about it. But when I first used it back in September, my first thought was ‘I get it’. This really is the most foolproof liquid bronzer that I have ever used. It blends so easily and it lasts all day on my face. My one critique is that it needs to come in a bigger tube. Because I am flying though it!
NARS SOFT MATTE COMPLETE FOUNDATION – $57.00
I was tempted to leave this one off. Because it’s pretty much a shoe in for my foundation of the year. But I wanted to take a quick moment to fawn over this foundation. Because it really is that good! It’s lasted though humidity, it’s lasted through heat, it’s lasted through rain. The Soft Matte Foundation really is the Queen Bee!
And that is it for my beauty faves! Before I wrap this up, here are a few of my non-beauty faves!
WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS – I often get asked about my favourite TV shows. And one day, I might do a top ten. But if I were to be writing that list today, What We Do In The Shadows will easily be in the number one spot. If you’re not familiar, What We Do In The Shadows is the TV spinoff of the 2014 movie of the same name written by Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi (the movie is also well worth watching). Where the movie is based around a group of vampires living in Wellington, New Zealand, the TV series is centered around four vampires (and one human familiar) living in Staten Island, New York. The format is basically the same as the movie (shot in a documentary style). And the humour comes from watching these vampires interact with modern society. I apologise for the vagueness, but I genuinely do not want to spoil this show. It’s so enjoyable and I love it! I believe that all three seasons are on Binge/Foxtel.
MUSICALSPLAING – Lindsay Ellis has hosted one of my favourite Youtube channels for over a decade now. And last year, she launched her first podcast with fellow USC alum Kaveh Teherian to talk about a topic she loves and he hates. Musicals! The format is simple. They pick a musical, they discuss the stats, they watch the musical, they discuss the good, bad and ugly! If you’re a fan of muscials, I cannot recommend this enough.
RED (TAYLOR’S VERSION) – My road to becoming a Swiftie has been a long one. Yes, back in the day, I was one of those ‘cool girls’ who didn’t like Taylor Swift because she only wrote songs about boys or some stupid reason. Thank god for the fact that I’m a) in my 30’s and b) way the hell past that. This album is a god damn masterpiece! As far as standout songs from the vault, my picks would have to be All Too Well (10 minute version, because duh) , The Very First Night and Nothing New featuring Phoebe Bridgers (this one hits like a god damn hammer). And as far as the OG songs, 22 hits so much harder now that we have more of the context behind it, State of Grace is just magic and Everything Has Changed had me crawled up in the fetal position.
And that’s a wrap on the Spring. Now, hot as balls Summer! Let me know what your favourites for the last few months were in the comments below.
Cheers and love
Emily xo
