Well, this review only took three months!
Yep, I am finally back on the foundation reviewing grind. And seeing as I had predominately covered higher end foundations last year, I wanted to get around to reviewing some of the more popular picks from the drugstore. I did an ask around on IG ages ago and I had a ton of requests to test out the NYX Cosmetics Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation that I picked up back in November. I’ve spent the last few weeks playing with it behind the scenes and I definitely have thoughts. So, let’s get into the review!
NYX COSMETICS CAN’T STOP WON’T STOP FULL COVERAGE FOUNDATION – $29.95 – priceline.com.au (45 shades available)
Starting with the packaging, the Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation is housed in a very sleek glass bottle. There is black detailing but otherwise, the glass is clear. It’s a good style of packaging for a makeup artist as it would be easy to store in a makeup kit. The bottle also has a nice weight to it. The Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation is cruelty free, vegan and contains 30ml of product.
The Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation utilises a pump for distribution of product. Normally, I’m a fan of a good pump. But I’m not wild about this one. The hole is on the smaller side and because the product dries down fairly quickly, it causes the hole to block up very easily. And I have had multiple moments where the foundation has spurted out and hit an item of clothing. I keep a paperclip close by to clean the dried foundation out.
The Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation comes in a fairly admirable 45 shades. With all 45 shades being available since it’s launch back in 2018. I found that there is a really solid balance of light, medium, and deep tones in this range. There is also a good balance of undertones available. I personally wear the shade Vanilla. Described as being a light with yellow undertones. This was the best match for me and as someone who prefers a neutral undertone, it’s not obnoxiously yellow on my skin. I will note that it does oxidise slightly, but not enough to be noticeable.
The Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation is described as being a full coverage foundation with a matte finish. And while I strongly agree with the overall finish (I’ll chat about that shortly), I rarely wore this as a totally full coverage foundation. I would usually go in with 1 to 1 1/2 pumps to do my whole face and then maybe an extra 1/2 pump for my cheeks. That got me to a solid medium coverage. Enough to cover scarring but not enough to cover my freckles. The few times I went full, I found that my skin looked super cakey. So I always sheered it out.
When I first applied this foundation, I went about it with my usual summertime foundation routine. Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer, Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Powder and Setting Spray. This has been my go to combo for foundations for a while now. And this mattifying combo, mixed with this foundation, lead to me having one of the most uncomfortable foundation experiences I’ve had in years. And this was during the Mount Isa summer when my skin is at it’s most oily! Apparently not oily enough.
I found that I had to change tactic with this foundation if it was going to work for me at all. First of all, obviously, a hydrating primer and a mist before application. I went with the Stila One Step Prime Primer and the Niod SDSM and those paired quite well with this foundation. I also vastly preferred a brush when it came to application as it left a far more even finish than the sponge did (never wanted to sit nicely on my chin or upper lip). And I went in with a super light hand when it came to powdering (I still needed to set this foundation). Even after all of this, I found that the foundation liked to cling to the dry spots on my chin and forehead.
And now we have to the wear test. And y’all, this foundation is… interesting. It’s rare that I have to force myself to keep a foundation on all day. But this one tested that limit. Especially before I perfected my prep routine. I have never worn a foundation that felt this physically drying on the skin before. It was to the point where I would have to take it off because I was so uncomfortable.
Once I settled into a good groove with this foundation, prep wise, I did notice that it wasn’t quite as long wearing as I had hoped. It faded considerably on my chin most notably. And as I mentioned before, it loves to cling to dry patches of skin. It does, however, stay pretty consistently matte throughout the day. I didn’t have to powder all that much.
All in all, the NYX Cosmetics Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation just isn’t for me. And I would strongly suspect that if you have dry skin and a low tolerance for matte foundations, this isn’t for you either. Having said that, if you’re a matte skin fan, this is the one you have been waiting for! This does go on sale at Priceline quite frequently, so if you’re on the fence, maybe wait until then to try it. But please let me know if you do!
Cheers and love

My daughter tried this and she didn’t like it at all, which is such a shame as she loved their stay matte not flat foundation. Great review Emily, you really tried to make this foundation work for you.
