Back in September of last year, I started my Shop My Stash series. In a bid to get around to using some of the more neglected products in my collection. You all seem to really be interested in this series (thank you, by the way). But one of the requests that I’ve received as a result of this series has been that I give my thoughts on the products that I feature in each edit.
Now, the mascara’s and foundation’s I feature tend to get the review treatment regardless. And If a product really impresses me, it usually ends up in my favourites. But it only seems fair that I give my thoughts on some of the other products that I tried. So, I pulled out five products from some of my previous edit’s. And I wanted to share my thought on them, ranking them from worst to best. Let’s get into it!
KVD VEGAN BEAUTY GOOD APPLE CONCEALER – $43.00
Fun fact. This is the first KVD Vegan Beauty product that I’ve used since their former CEO stepped down. And sadly, it wasn’t a great first impression. It started off well enough. I actually like that the doe foot applicator is on such a steep angle because it allows me to reach the small crevices on my face more easily. I also though the coverage was pretty great. The issue I have with this is that it pilled and creased under my eyes really badly. And I did everything to try and counteract that. I swapped eye creams, I used a brush, I used my fingers, I used less product. It didn’t matter. It pilled. I have since discovered that a few people have had this problem with this concealer. So, at least I know it’s not just me. I might pass this along to a sister.
MILK MAKEUP HYDRO GRIP MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY – $62.00
Few makeup products have given me more mixed feelings than the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Setting Spray. Because on the one hand, I do genuinely like the product. The bi-phase formula means that it sets my makeup and gives me a lovely, natural glow to the skin. I also love it as a makeup primer on it’s own. On the other hand, the packaging is absolutely awful! There is a reason why I felt the need to swap bottles. The mister is so harsh and splattery (I believe Theresa Is Dead would describe it as Setting Spray Bukkake). It bugged me so much. If they fix the sprayer, I would buy this again in a heartbeat.
AUSTRALIS DEWY & DARING CREAM BRONZER in RIDE OR DIE – $14.95*
This one is a case of good product, bad shade. I had this our during my Summer Edit because I generally like a deeper bronze during the warmer months. But this was a touch too deep for me. If you have more of a medium skin tone, this shade would probably suit you perfectly! As for the wear though, really good! I found that my favourite way to apply this was rubbing some onto the back of my hand and then using a dense buffing brush to tap the product onto wherever I wanted bronzer. So, I do intend to include the lighter shade in a future edit. And I also hope that Australis expands on this range in the future.
EM COSMETICS SO SOFT CREAM BLUSH in VENETIAN ROSE – $46.00
Staying with cream products, the So Soft Cream Blushes from Em Cosmetics are criminally underrated. The formula is unlike any cream blush I’ve tried. It’s super lightweight and almost moussy in the stick. And it’s the rare cream product that I feel comfortable applying directly to the face. The effect it gives to the cheeks is so effortless and it wears like a dream. I don’t really have much else to say except for the fact that I will be buying more of these!
HAUS LABS POWDER SCULPT VELVET BRONZER in LIGHT 4 – $68.00
The Fenty Beauty powder bronzer has been my favourite one for like 3 years now. This one from Haus Labs may have just overtaken it. This is phenomenal. First of all, the shade range is so expansive (12 shades!). And it was surprisingly easy to pick my shade. The powder is velvety smooth. And it blends seamlessly into the skin. It looks so natural and it lasts all day! Out of everything that I’ve tried from Haus Labs so far, this is the one product that I recommend (we’ll revisit this when I try the foundation next month).
And that is a wrap on my bite size reviews! This was a lot of fun to do. If there is anything that I’ve featured in a previous edit that you want me to talk about, by all means let me know. I’ll be doing these throughout the year. I hope you all have a great weekend!
Cheers and love
Emily xo
