You know how I mentioned in my Nars Natural Radiant Foundation review that it was one that I had put off for a while? Well folks, I think that I’ve been putting this one off for longer! That’s right, after 2 long years, I’m finally able to review the iconic Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation. This one is beloved online. And I was so excited to finally put it to the test. So, if you want to know if this was worth the wait? Just keep reading!
DIOR BACKSTAGE FACE & BODY FOUNDATION – $75.00 – sephora.com.au
*40 shades available*
Starting with the packaging, the Face & Body Foundation is housed in the same soft plastic bottle that the Ultra Violette Daydream Screen is housed in. I do like that this style of bottle is becoming more popular (I believe that Too Faced has recently released a skin tint in similar style packaging). There is silver detail on the bottle itself and the cap is a mirrored metallic. The Face & Body Foundation contains 50ml of product.
Much like the Daydream Screen, the Face & Body Foundation also uses a spout to dispense the product. It’s a thinner consistency foundation, I do like this style of dispenser. One thing I will say is that the cap is easier to twist off, it also clicks into place. Meaning it can’t come off easily.
The Face & Body Foundation has 40 shades in the line. With a pretty decent range of undertones available. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same thing for the actual shades. The majority of this range runs light/medium. With only 5 I would consider deep. I had always hoped that they would expand on this range. But at the time of writing, they have not. Having said that, there have been whispers online for a while that Dior is looking to revamp the entire Backstage line (another reason why this review took so long). If that is the case, I do hope that they expand on the shade range here.
For me, I wear shade 2N. Which was the shade recommended for me by the Temptalia Foundation Matrix. And there is no further description to go with that. Now, in the above picture, it does look like a pretty spot on match. But IRL, it definitely leans more peachy. I can make it work, but it’s a summer shade for sure.
Applying the Face & Body Foundation was pretty easy. Most days, I either went in with my hands or a sponge. I also gave it a crack with a brush and it worked fantastically too. And considering how thin the consistency is, I was legitimately surprised by that. Saying how much I used on any given day, however, is another story. Because there is no pump, I would usually go in with the length of my ring finger all over my face. And than half that if I wanted to bump up the coverage.
The Face & Body Foundation is described as being an ultra buildable foundation with a natural, skin like finish. And I hard agree on both counts. This has been one of the easiest foundations I’ve had to work with for a while! Most days, I would go for a more medium finish. But it was so easy to get this to full without it looking cakey or heavy on the skin. It’s a true lightweight feel.
Which brings us to the wear test. And this is where a few of the faults of this foundation pop up. None of them are deal breakers. But they are worth noting nonetheless. First things first, overall, it does actually wear very well. It didn’t last on my forehead after an eight hour shift. But it stayed on the rest of my face without cracking or fading.
However, I did notice that it does oxidise. Enough to be noticeable. But not so much that I look like an Oompa Loompa. I also did have to powder after around six hours. The foundation doesn’t break down at all, but I was shiny and I felt it too. One more thing about the formula that I should mention. There is fragrance in this. It doesn’t linger for an extended period. But it is there when you first apply it.
All in all, I have to say that the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation has more than earned it’s icon status. It’s not perfect. But it’s a damn good foundation that I give my recommendation to. If your shade is available, definitely pick up a sample. I hope you love it too! Have you tried the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation? Let me know in the comments below.
Cheers and love
