My MAC Lipstick Collection – Part 5 – 2023 Edition

Well folks, National Lipstick Day has come and gone for another year. Which means it’s time to show off my MAC Cosmetics haul for 2023. Longtime followers will know that I use MAC’s Free Lipstick deal to pad out my collection. And pad out I did! I picked up four new lipsticks this year (full disclosure, it was five but I finally managed to double dip on a shade accidentally). And they are all stunningly beautiful. Let’s get to swatching!

SHADE: Taupe
FORMULA: Matte
COLOUR DESCRIPTION: Muted Reddish-Taupe Brown
This was one of the three freebie shades that were available this year (the other two were D For Danger and Devoted To Chili). And while I will admit that this is a deeper shade than I would normally go for these days. It is still a lovely neutral that I am happy to have in my collection. Kinda surprised that I didn’t already own it, to be honest.

FORMULA: Lustreglass
COLOUR DESCRIPTION: Taupey Pink Nude With Silver Pearl
This is the shade that went viral on TikTok earlier in the year. And as someone who is famously susceptible to peer pressure, it quickly made it’s way into my cart. As as shade, I do really like it. It’s very light and glossy. Definitely my kind of vibe. And it would pair amazingly with a deeper neutral lip liner. I will say that I don’t notice the silver pearl in it. But I suspect that if my lips were a bit more chapped, I probably would.

SHADE: Simulation
FORMULA: Squirt Plumping Gloss Stick
COLOUR DESCRIPTION: Nude
The Squirt Plumping Gloss Sticks launched a few months back. And for a hot minute, these were inescapable on social media. Inspired by a beloved Lip Glass shade, the Squirt Gloss Sticks are a 10 piece collection of super soft, glossy lipsticks that are low on pigment, but big on impact. They have Menthol, Capsicum Extract, and Ginger Root to provide a plumping effect. But they also have a ton of super nourishing ingredients to help soothe and protect the lips. Think the Hourglass Phantom Balms, but less pigmented. I picked up one boring shade and one of the fun shades in this collection. Firstly, we have Simulation. Which is a no nonsense, brown toned nude. Very much a MLBB shade.

SHADE: Nova
FORMULA: Squirt Plumping Gloss Stick
COLOUR DESCRIPTION: Blue
And this was the fun one! Nova is a super icy blue shade. Now, I will admit that it looks super intimidating in the tube and on the lips. But this shade is not only gorgeous on it’s own (I have built it up for the purposes of the picture. Normally I would wear it much more lightly). But it also works well as a colour neutraliser. Say you have a lipstick that leans a touch orange. Popping a little bit of this on top will counteract that orange tone. Colour theory is fun!
