In the space of a year, Tower 28 has gone from being merely a wish list brand, to easily one of my favourites. Every single product that I have tried from them has blown me away by how good they have been. And I was so excited to finally try out the SunnyDays Tinted SPF as part of my Shop My Stash series. This was a product that I saw on a ton of best of lists last year. And quite a few of my fellow blogger friends have sung it’s praises recently. So, let’s see if I feel the same way!
TOWER 28 SUNNYDAYS TINTED SPF – $54.88 – revolve.com
(17 shades available)
We shall kick start this review the same way I always do. The SunnyDays Tinted SPF is housed in a recycled plastic squeezy tube style bottle. The bottle is a soft lilac purple with red detail and a semicircle that is supposed to represent the shade colour. The dispenser is towards the bottom of the tube. The bottle is lightweight, and it would be a good option for travel or just to have on you for day to day. The SunnyDays Tinted SPF is cruelty free, vegan, and contains 30ml of product.
The dispenser is a dropper style. With a screw on cap to keep it from leaking. I will admit that I’m not wild about this stye of dropper. It kind of has the same problem as the Westman Atelier one I reviewed a little while ago where the hole is maybe a bit too narrow. And it means that I do struggle to get product out from time to time. Something to keep in mind for sure.
The SunnyDays Tinted SPF initially launched with 14 shades. The shades are divided up into six categories (Fair, Light, Medium, Tan, Deep, Rich). And they have their corresponding undertones. In the time since they launched, they have added three new shades. Bringing their total up to 17. I will say, it’s a very good gradient of shades. The fair shade is very pale girl friendly and the deepest is a favourite of the likes of Golloria. And I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they add more in the future.
As for me, I wear the shade no. 10 Larchmont. Described as being a light with yellow undertones. I will admit, I only grabbed this shade because the shade I wanted was out of stock. And I was certain that this was going to be too light for me. Fortunately, it’s a pretty perfect match. Right down to the undertone. But when I do repurchase this, I might grab La Cienega (shade 13) instead. Also, the shades are named after suburbs of Los Angeles. Which I think is a very cute touch.
The consistency of this is very similar to a lot of the tinted moisturisers that I’ve tried. Runny, but still with some body. I was able to dot it all over my face pretty easily. I would use a drop a little bit bigger than a pea all over my face. And then a small dab to help boost coverage on my chin. As far as application goes, I found that I had the best results when I used my fingers to spread it over my face. And then used a sponge to even things out.
The SunnyDays Tinted SPF is described as being a light-medium coverage with a natural finish. I definitely agree. This feels so lovely and lightweight on the skin. I also found that it did a great job at covering up some of my acne scarring. And it was super easy to apply makeup on top of.
Now, you will have noticed that I haven’t spoken about this as a sunscreen. And that’s because I wasn’t using this product as my sun protection. I treated this product in a similar fashion to my Ultra Violette Daydream Screen. Where I used it as a booster to my pre-existing sunscreen. The SunnyDays Tinted SPF is marked as a SPF 30 and does contain 12.5% Zinc Dioxide as it’s main filter. Which is a popular option for those with sensitive skin. And a bit of good news, it doesn’t have that weird smell that some zinc dioxide sunscreens can have.
Let’s get to the wear test now. And I have to say, for a product that is not touted as a long wear product, this held on remarkably well. Especially that we are now reaching the 30’s temperature wise and my skin is getting a little more oily. It doesn’t breakdown as much as it kind of fades into my skin. If anything, I will say that I had some cracking on my forehead lines. It also didn’t last when I was wearing my hat (then again, not long wear).
The one time that I did have a bad experience with this was when I used the ELF Halo Glow underneath. Maybe between the sunscreen and that, it was too many layers of product. It broke down far quicker than any other time I’ve worn it. I’m chalking that up to user error. But yeah, I’m super impressed!
So, what’s the verdict? A definite yes! I cannot praise the Tower 28 SunnyDays Tinted SPF enough. And if you’re in the market for a lightweight skin tint, this one is well worth trying. Have you tried the Tower 28 SunnyDays Tinted SPF? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
