Happy Friday everyone! We are back with another mascara review. And this one is a doozy. Because we are finally tackling one of the biggest mascara launches of 2023. That’s right, we are talking about the new Huda Beauty 1 Coat WOW! Mascara. This mascara promises extreme volume and lift with only one coat. And if you know me, you know that’s a bold claim. Let’s get into this review.
HUDA BEAUTY 1 COAT WOW! EXTRA VOLUMISING AND LIFTING MASCARA – $32.00 – hudabeauty.com.au
Starting with the packaging, the 1 Coat WOW! Mascara is housed in a bright magenta tube. There is black and dark magenta detailing on the tube itself. I adore this packaging. It’s so bright and fun. Not to mention a huge departure from what I’ve come to expect from Huda and her branding. The 1 Coat WOW! Mascara is cruelty free, vegan, and contains 10ml of product.
So, for those who might not remember, Huda’s first mascara was a dual ended mascara. With one wand for volume and another wand for length and lift. The 1 Coat WOW! Mascara takes the concept and smooshes it together for a wand that is quite unique (or it would be had the Essence Double Trouble Mascara not been the last mascara that I reviewed). The brush itself is made of rubberised bristles. With one side of the brush being more of an hourglass shape and the other being more rounded. The bristles themselves do appear to be equal in length and distance. And it grips the lashes really well.
As expected, the formula for the 1 Coat WOW! Mascara is extremely black and rick in pigment. And yes, I got all this from just one dip into the tube. Texture wise, the formula is on the creamy side. Which I’ve come to expect from volume mascaras. It’s a wax heavy formula. With synthetic beeswax, sunflower seed wax, carnauba wax and parrafin all popping up. There is also panthenol included (it’s a good one for nourishing lashes)
Well, guess I’ll come out and say it. When I first applied the 1 Coat WOW! Mascara, I legitimately said ‘wow’ to myself. I was instantly impressed by it. Now, I will clarify that when Huda says 1 Coat, she means one dip into the tube. And I got all of this volume and definition from one dip. This wand and formula were made for each other! I also got a good amount of lift. Though I was curious to see how long that lasted. Because the other thing I immediately noticed was how heavy this initially felt on my lashes. It’s shockingly rare that I feel the mascara, but with this one, I did. More so when it was still wet on the lashes. I also didn’t get as much length as I would like. But that’s the trade off with a mascara like this.
When it comes to mascaras that focus on volume, I always expect there to be some transfer during it’s wear time. And that was the case here. I was noticing smudging within two hours of wear time under the eye. And after a full day’s work, I had flaking and transfer on the eyelid too. It was less when I was wearing makeup (as always, these were taken with bare skin). But I still had some even with powdered under eyes. I also was correct in guessing that my lashes would droop throughout the day.
Y’all, this review is ending up way more negative than I wanted it to be. While I do like this mascara and I love the effect it gives to the lashes, I can’t bring myself to give it a recommendation. Especially if you’re someone who hates smudgy under eyes. I am curious to revisit this mascara in a couple of months once the formula has had a second to dry out a little bit. But until then, I’d say maybe wait for a sale. Have you tried the Huda Beauty 1 Coat WOW! Mascara? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love

Great honest review as always. It is a shame but at least you did get to say wow when you first applied it!
