Few brands get me more excited for complexion products than Hourglass. My love of the Vanish Foundation Stick is famous on here. And I really have grown to love the Soft Glow Foundation. So when I heard that they were hitching a wagon onto the skin tint train, I was immediately intrigued. I managed to get my hands on it while I was in Sydney and I’ve spent the last few weeks giving it the Emmie’s Beauty Life treatment. So, is this worth the splurge? Just keep reading.
HOURGLASS VEIL HYDRATING SKIN TINT – $79.00 – mecca.com.au
*18 shades available*
Hourglass is known for their aesthetically pleasing packaging. And the packaging for the skin tint is elegant, yet practical. The packaging is a white plastic tube with black and gold detail. There is also a H cut out that shows the colour of the product. There is a gold chrome screw on cap at the bottom of the bottle that locks in and feels very secure. For the most part, I would feel confident taking this with me on a trip without worrying about it spilling. Though I’ll talk more about that in a second. The Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint is cruelty free, vegan, and contains 35ml of product.
It’s a good thing that the cap is secure. Because my biggest bug bear with this skin tint is the dispenser. Not only is it a dropper style, it’s at the bottom of the bottle. The reason why this is a problem is because this formula is extremely thin. Probably one of the thinnest skin tint texture’s I’ve come across at this point. And even with a lid that locks in place, the product gets all over the tip when you store it cap side up. With a formula this thin, the packaging really should be the other way around. Even just for storing purposes.
The Veil Hydrating Skin Tint has 18 shades in the line. And yeah, I know it’s a skin tint and on the flexible side, it could still definitely stand to be improved. Most of the shades are on the light to medium side. There are only 2 shades for deep dark skin tones. I would love to see maybe 1-2 more shades added down the line.
One thing I did notice when I was swatching in store was that the undertones had significantly improved. Hourglass notoriously has leaned warm with their complexion ranges in the past. So I was delighted to see that the shade I ended up picking was a shade that actually worked for me. I wear shade 3, which is described as being Fair with Neutral Undertones. It’s easily the best match I’ve ever had with an Hourglass complexion product.
As you can imagine, with a formula as thin as this one, I did have to work quickly with it to blend it out. I found that I had the best luck with my fingers. I would squeeze out maybe the equivalent of a pea size amount for my initial application. And maybe half that amount extra to boost the coverage along the chin and jawline. It builds well enough, though you can definitely use too much (my first time using it was a mess).
The Veil Hydrating Skin Tint is described as being a sheer coverage with a dewy natural finish. For me, definitely more natural than dewy. But I agree with it being a sheer coverage. It’s very lightweight and comfortable on the skin. And it does feel very hydrating. There are the usual suspects in this formula like Hyaluronic Acid and Plant Based Squalane. But there is also Meadowfoam Seed Oil for strengthening the skin barrier and a Naturally Derived Rambutan Blend to help further with hydration. Basically, if you have dry skin, you will love this already!
But do I love it? Well, let’s get to the wear test. Much like the Revlon mascara I reviewed on Tuesday, it was a particularly brutal day to be doing a wear test on anything. But I will say, the Hourglass held it’s own and wore much better than I expected it to. I did lose some off of my chin. But that’ll be because I was resting in chin on my hands. Otherwise, it wore extremely well over the 9 hours I had it on this day. I had no sinking into pores or cracking in my fine lines. It even stayed put when I accidentally splashed my face with the garden hose. Yeah, I kinda can’t fault it.
So, do I recommend the Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint? Yes and no. As much as I enjoy the wear of it, I will say that the price is easily the biggest thing stopping me from giving it my full endorsement. But if you are in the market for a skin tint style product and you have the cash to splash on this, I say go for it. Especially if you have dry and mature skin. Have you tried the Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
