Well, haven’t done one of these for a while! That’s right, we are back with another edition of my Save, Spend, Splurge, Skip series. And for this edition, we are talking all things concealer!
Now, while I tend to not be super picky with concealers, I do have my preferences. My under eyes tend to be drier than the rest of my face, so my personal preference is serumy formulas with medium to full buildable coverage. And over the last few years, I have discovered so many incredible concealers that I can easily turn to. Se, let’s get into my picks!
SAVE (Budget up to $25.00)
As soon as I had this blog post idea pop into my head, I knew immediately that the first concealer that I wanted to shout out was the MAYBELLINE INSTANT AGE REWIND ERASER – $22.99. I have been using this concealer for literal YEARS! I’ve gone through more tubes than I can count. The formula is so thin, but the coverage is phenomenal. This is one that I’ve recommended to friends and family. And up until very recently, I would have said this was my number one concealer (but we’ll get to that).
So, the first pick was easy. The second one I wanted to highlight, however, was tough. Eventually, I settled on another old fave. The AUSTRALIS FRESH & FLAWLESS CONCEALER & CONTOUR – $14.95. The consistency of this one is creamy and hydrating. But once it’s set, it’s pretty much budge proof. Best of all, this can be built up to a full coverage!
SPEND ($25.00 – $50.00)
Listen, I am two things. Basic and predictable. And you knew as soon as you clicked on this post that these were going to be the two concealers that I was going to recommend for this category. Firstly, the TOWER 28 SWIPE SERUM CONCEALER – $36.84. This is the current top ranking concealer in my collection. I love how serumy and hydrating the formula is. This is one of the few concealers that doesn’t crease on me pretty much at all. And the coverage is so skin like. I wear this most often on it’s own. just to give a bit of life back to my face.
On the flipside, we have the URBAN DECAY STAY NAKED QUICKIE CONCEALER – $49.00. Another one from the end of year favourites, this is one of the highest coverage concealers that I own. A little bit goes such a long way with this one. And again, once this one is set down, it doesn’t move. But unlike a lot of these ‘self setting formulas’, you actually get some wriggle room to blend it out first.
SPLURGE (Budget over $50.00)
Listen, will I ever forgive Huda for discontinuing the Overachiever Concealer? Maybe. But the HUDA BEAUTY #FAUXFILTER LIMINOUS MATTE LIQUID CONCEALER – $54.00 does go a long way to make me feel better. This is another one for the full coverage squad. But I can easily sheer this out to a medium, skin like finish. I also love this one for blemishes and my acne scarring. Having said that…
When it comes to covering up blemishes, the main concealer I turn to is the NARS SOFT MATTE COMPLETE CONCEALER – $54.00. Another one that is super hyped up, I know. But once you try it, you might never go back. While I can use it under my eyes, where it really shines is as a spot cover. I can use this all over my face and it makes my skin look flawless.
SKIP (No budget)
Both of these are concealers I have talked about recently, so I’ll make this quick. The KVD BEAUTY GOOD APPLE CONCEALER – $43.00 is probably the worst concealer that I’ve tried in recent memory. Very heavy feeling on the eyes and it creased up a storm.
On the more affordable side, the MAYBELLINE SUPER STAY ACTIVEWEAR CONCEALER – $24.99 has a lovely consistency initially. But the colour selection is way off and this shade in particular oxidises on me, leaving my under eyes discoloured. It also has a rough dry down. It left my under eyes looking super crepey. And because of the dry down, it creased almost immediately.
And those are my concealer picks. I truly could have been here all day talking about this. I just think concealers are neat! Let me know your faves in the comments.
Cheers and love
Emily xo
