2024 has seen some pretty high profile and viral foundation launches. But few have been as talked about as the Huda Beauty Easy Blur Foundation. When this launched at the start of September, the opinion online was split right down the middle. With some saying that it was their new holy grail. And others saying it was an utter disaster to wear.
Now, you all know me at this point. I was already planning on buying this foundation (come on, it’s Huda). But when I saw how divisive the opinions were, I knew I had to grab it sooner rather than later. And I did in fact buy it the day it launched in Australia. I even got it from Sephora because I wanted to review this for y’all as quickly as possible. I’ve spent most of the month playing with it. And oh boy, do I have thoughts. So, if you want to know what side of the coin I land on when it comes to the Easy Blur Foundation, just keep reading!
HUDA BEAUTY EASY BLUR FOUNDATION – $60.00 – sephora.com.au
(30 shades available)
I’ll start with the packaging. The Easy Blur Foundation is housed in a sleek, rectangular plastic packaging. The plastic is clear, and there is black and white detail on the bottle. The cap at the bottom of the bottle is black matte plastic. Now, this packaging was controversial when it was first announced. As it was a substantial departure from Huda’s previous foundation packaging. Huda has since done a video talking about the packaging that I will link here. As for me, I love how sleek and lightweight it is. And even though I’m not a working makeup artist, I do know that this is the sort of packaging that they love for their kits. The Easy Blur Foundation is cruelty free and contains 30ml of product.
The Easy Blur Foundation is dispensed via a dropper at the bottom of the packaging. Now, I’m not normally a fan of this because when the foundation is too runny (like this one is), more often than not, the dropper gets gunked up quickly and it inhibits my ability to get anything out. But, for reasons that are unknown to me, I am yet to have that issue here at the time of writing. I also like that the bottle has a slight squish to it. Allowing me to easily squeeze the desired amount of product out.
The Easy Blur Foundation has 30 shades in the line. The shades are divided up into seven different categories (Fair, Light, Light Medium, Medium, Tan, Deep Tan, Rich). And there is a good range of undertones in each category. Which is something I’ve come to respect about Huda. Something else I’ve respected from Huda is her accountability. As she has been extremely transparent with this foundation launch. There was an issue with one of the deeper shades that wasn’t discovered until after the launch. And she was right on it, admitting to the issue and putting it right. That’s what I personally love to see from brand owners.
But what shade do you wear, Emily? Well, dear reader, I wear shade 140G – Cashew. And while I was initially concerned that the shade would lean yellow (an issue that I’ve had with Huda’s foundations previously), I have to say that it’s actually a good match. The shade still has a hint of warmth, but it works well with my neutral skintone.
Now, let’s pop open the hood and see what this foundation has packing! The big thing that the the Easy Blur Foundation is spruiking is the 1.5% Niacinamide. We know and love Niacinamide for it’s skin barrier healing properties. Also in this foundation is Silica Powder. And that’s going to be the ingredient that adds to the overall burring effect that this foundation gives. So, let’s get into that!
We’ll chat application first. Now, according to the Huda Beauty website, she recommends using a buffing brush to get the optimal finish for this foundation. But for me personally, I genuinely much preferred the finish I got with a beauty sponge. With the brush, my skin really did look blurred and like I was wearing a filter. But it was a little much for everyday makeup. The sponge looked more natural, while still giving that blurred effect. One thing I will note is that this is a foundation that dries down quickly. And when I was using a brush, I struggled with building up the coverage. I did have an easier time with a sponge. But I still had to work quickly and do a little bit at a time.
One thing that I should bring up is which primers I used with this foundation. Huda did launch an Easy Blur Primer to go alongside this launch (I do like that a lot too). But I also tried this with a few other primers. For my preference, I loved this with a hydrating primer (the Mecca Max Dew Over and the Huda Beauty Water Jelly were my top picks). Where it didn’t work for me was when I used this foundation with the Milk Makeup HydroGrip Primer. It made the foundation look like it was clinging to all of my dry patches. Just an bad experience for me.
The Easy Blur Foundation is described as being a medium buildable coverage with a natural airbrushed finish. And oh yes, do I agree with both of those. I can easily bump this to full coverage if I wanted to. But like I mentioned in the above paragraph, I personally preferred the finish when it looked like my skin. My blemishes and dark spots were covered, but my freckles still poked through. I also wanted to bring up how lightweight and comfortable this foundation is on the skin. Formula’s that spruik blurring benefits have always leaned more heavy on my skin. So, I was delighted when I first applied it at how comfortable it was.
But let’s get into the wear test. Now, I wore this foundation for almost 3 weeks straight. Some days for well over 12 hours. We’ve had both heat and rain up north. So I really put this foundation through it’s paces. And it passed with flying colours. The most I had to do was touch up around my nose where I got a little shiny. But this foundation didn’t break down, sink into pores, break me out, or slip around. Once it was on, it was on. I’ve gotten so many compliments while wearing this foundation. And I quite literally, on more than one occasion, just touched up the shine and kept on wearing it right up until bedtime.
So, this is my new foundation of the year. The Easy Blur Foundation gets an enthusiastic thumbs up from me and the loudest recommendation I can muster. If you’re already blessed with perfect skin, you certainly don’t need this. But if you’ve ever struggled with texture, dark spots, or are just in your 30’s, I believe you’ll especially love it. Have you tried the Huda Beauty Easy Blur Foundation? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
Emily xo
