Listen, I don’t like making a habit of swapping stuff out of my stash without giving y’all a heads up. But when my favourite drugstore brand releases their first new mascara in over 5 years, I knew I had to do some switching around. So, the Rose Inc Mascara review is getting bumped into next year. And today, we are chatting about the brand new Australis Emotional Support Tubing Mascara. And with a name like that, I knew I had to put it through it’s paces. So, let’s get into the review.
AUSTRALIS EMOTIONAL SUPPORT TUBING MASCARA – $19.95 – asutraliscosmetics.com.au
Australis is pretty well known for their eye catching packaging. And the Emotional Support Mascara is no exception. It’s housed in a sleek, lightweight plastic tube. The body of the tube is black with white and neon green detail and the handle of the mascara is neon green. Bright shades of green are having a huge moment right now (thanks Charli XCX). So it makes total sense that a fun and fresh brand like Australis would use it for their packaging. In fact, Australis also released a brow range in the same shade of green. The Emotional Support Mascara is vegan, cruelty free, and contains 8.5ml of product.
The wand for the Emotional Support Mascara is a curved, moulded head with short bristles that are equal size all along the head. The bristles are spaced evenly, but not super close together. And it does allow the wand to grip my lashes and apply product evenly. I will say they’re not my favourite bristles on a mascara. I wish they were a little less rigid. But the shape is nice and it’s not too long a brush.
Well, like the name says, this is yet another tubing mascara for the 2024 review list. But there are some fun things under the hood of this mascara. It’s loaded with lash loving ingredients line Panthenol (lash conditioning), Peptides (lash strengthing), Castor Oil (also lash strengthing). It also uses a particular polymer that helps hold the mascaras shape on the lashes. Meaning, in theory, I should see a reduction in lash droop.
As far as the texture goes, this mascara is interesting. It’s a slightly wetter formula that I’ve seen for a tubing mascara. But the drydown is extremely quick. I actually struggled to get this swatch off my hand once I was done. The pigment is very rich and black. Which I always like to see. And the formula was basically clump free.
My initial first impressions of this mascara were pretty mixed. I was a little underwhelmed by the length I got from my first coat. And a second coat didn’t improve things much. I suspected that the quick drydown would mean that this mascara wouldn’t layer well. And I think I’m right. It did feel odd when I went in for that second coat. On the positive side, I was quick to notice the definition and lift that this mascara gave. And it’s pretty volumising for a tubing mascara. Volume is something I often sacrifice when it comes to tubing mascara.
Now, before I get into the wear test, I wanted to chat about the removal of the Emotional Support Mascara. Because this one plays a little differently to other tubing mascaras that I’ve tried. One of the big selling points of the Emotional Support Mascara is that it has a water resistant formula. Meaning that it won’t come off with just a quick swipe of a cloth. You really need to saturate the lashes with water by pressing a damp cloth on them for 30 seconds. and then gently rub to get the mascara off. And often times, I have to remove the excess while I’m in the shower. So, definitely something to keep in mind.
Getting into the wear test now. And what else can I say but wow! I’m kind of in amazement. After 9+ hours of wear, this mascara still looks the exact same. I had none of the drooping that I tend to experience with other tubing mascaras. Another surprise was that I had no flaking. Which I also expected due to how dry the formula was once it had set. It really stayed put.
Well, despite some minor quibbles on my end, I do have to give the Australis Emotional Support Tubing Mascara a thumbs up and a strong recommendation. If your in the market for a mascara that you can trust to not flake off or look a mess in tough situations, and you’re willing to sacrifice a little drama with the lashes, then this might be a winner for you. Have you tried the Australis Emotional Support Tubing Mascara? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
