You should know the drill by this point. The old stash is out, the new stash is in. Which means it’s time to talk about the standout products from my old stash. And I have some highly requested products to review here. Let’s get into it!
GLOSSIER FUTUREDEW OIL SERUM – $50.00
This was the one that I was influenced to pick up when the Glossier launch happened. And while I’m glad that I own it, it did take some figuring out in terms of how to best utilize it. My preferred way of wearing the Futuredew was actually on it’s own. It really does give the healthiest looking glow to the skin. And it has a very slight tint. Not enough to add any real coverage. But enough to make my skin appear more even.
However, using it as a primer is where I ran into issues with it. On me, I found that it didn’t jive well with some of my foundations. And even mixing them into my foundations didn’t quite work the I wanted to. I am willing to concede the fact that it was the wrong time of year to be trying this (it’s summer and my skin is generally more oily now). So I’m happy to give this another go next winter. But for right now, when I want a simple glowy base and nothing else, this is my new go to.
RARE BEAUTY TRUE TO MYSELF PRESSED FINISHING POWDER – $53.00
Truth be told, I don’t usually use finishing powders when I do my makeup. I personally prefer to use a translucent loose powder. That way I know that my makeup won’t move. But this I ended up really enjoying. If you want an idea of what this is like, think a more matte version of the Hourglass powders. I don’t use this to set my base necessarily. Instead, I use my velour puff to apply it in places like around my nose and under my eyes just to melt everything together. It adds a small amount of extra coverage. But my base as a whole looks more, well, finished when I use this. I have mine in the shade Ivory. But I will point out that you should swatch in store because they do run a little deep.
L’OREAL INFALLIBLE 3 SECOND SETTING MIST – $29.99
Easily the most requested review of my stash, I have so many thoughts about the Infallible Setting Mist. But I can narrow those thoughts down to two questions. 1) Does it work? Yes, without question. You wear this, your makeup does not move. 2) Does it feel pleasant to use? Absolutely not. As someone who loathes the feeling of stickiness, the first time using this was a nightmare. I felt it cling to every single hair on my face. And that includes my eyebrows. It did lessen the more I used it. And even more after I dermaplained. But those first few minutes after spraying were always unbearable. I will use this up. Because like I said at the top, this will make your makeup last all day. But I think this product just isn’t for me.
MERIT BRONZE BALM – $48.00
Merit finally launched shipping to Australia back in September. So, I took the opportunity to try a few of their viral goodies. And I decided to include their best selling Bronze Balm in my last stash. Now, Merit’s whole deal is that they are big on the natural, clean girl aesthetic. And the Bronze Balm would be amazing if that is your thing. It’s very easy to blend out with both a sponge or a brush. It looks super skin like. And it lasts a while once it’s set down. My one issue is the shade. I got Shade 2, Clay. And it’s a very warm, almost yellow toned bronzer. Which I will admit looks a little off on me. I do tend to prefer a more netural tone when it comes to bronzers. So, it’s definitely something to look out for. Good formula, not so great shade.
NYX BUTTERMELT BLUSH – $23.99
Let’s end this post on a positive now. When it comes to the Buttermelt series, Nyx is now two for two. These blushes are absolutely incredible! It’s easily the most pigmented drugstore powder blush I’ve come across for a while. You definitely want to tap off the excess on your brush before you apply to the face. But they blend so beautifully and they really do last all day on the face. I hope Nyx eventually brings the rest of the shades over here (Australia got four out of the 12 shades the US got). Because I want more of them. Also, the shade I had was My Butta Half.
Well, I hope you’ve had your fill of reviews! I always enjoy doing these for y’all. Have an amazing week and I’ll catch you on Friday.
Cheers and love
Emily xo
