Welcome back to part two of my Best In Beauty Awards. Today, I will be doing my favourite of the awards series. My top 5 favourite fragrances of 2024.
2024 was a sensational year for fragrance. With many of my favourite houses launching some incredible scents. And I made some amazing new discoveries that are now essentials in my collection. As always, the rankings are determined by how I feel in this exact moment. Though, to be honest, this top five has been pretty well set in stone for most of the year.
One more note, as my collection is pretty expansive now, you may notice that the dents may not be as big as you would expect from a fragrance that I love. I do try to not wear the same perfume over consecutive days. But rest assured, these five are all beloved and are worn frequently by me. Anyways, Let’s get into the faves.
5TH PLACE: ELLIS BROOKLYN SUPER AMBER EDP – $183.00 for 50ml
NOTES: Amber, Musk, Virginia Cedar, Vanilla
Every year, I have a fragrance that makes my top five that is a clear outlier from the perfumes I normally go for. And for the second year in a row, it goes to Ellis Brooklyn. Super Amber is probably my favourite skin scent that I’ve tried. It’s got a warmth to it, but it still has that sweet touch from the Vanilla Orchid. This isn’t a ‘turning heads’ kind of fragrance. But it definitely has it’s place in my collection.
4TH PLACE: THE 7 VIRTUES CHERRY AMBITION EDP – $156.00 for 50ml
NOTES: Top: Cherry, Pink Pepper, Marshmallow, Mandarin Orange. Middle: Saffron, Cherry Blossom, Orris, Osmanthus. Base: Vanilla, Frankincense, Amber, Guaiac Wood, Musk.
This one was actually one of the last cuts I made to my 2023 list. I ultimately decided against adding it because it was still so new in my collection. One year later, this is my favourite, straight up cherry fragrance in my collection. Personally speaking, I find that a lot of cherry fragrances either go too powdery or can smell very medicinal. This is one of the few that I’ve come across that stays smelling fruity and juicy on my skin. There is also a touch of sweetness coming from the Marshmallow and Vanilla. I smashed through my 10ml and immediately bought the 50ml late last year. Worth every penny.
3rd PLACE: SOL DE JANERIO CHEIROSA 59 BODY MIST – $42.00 for 90ml
NOTES: Top: Vanilla Orchid. Middle: Sugar, Violet. Base: Sandalwood
There are some in the fragrance community that would look down upon me for including a body mist in my top five. To those people, I say, argue with the wall. This is Sol De Janeiro’s crowning achievement. Their best fragrance by far. And yes, I can say that. I own all of the permanent ones now (full ranking coming soon). This is sweet, vanilla floral heaven. A little bit goes such a long way. And for a body mist, this has a fantastic wear time. I can spray this on at 8am and can still smell it on me at 5pm. I can see why the spiders liked this one so much.
2ND PLACE: (Tie) KAYALI EDEN SPARKLING LYCHEE – $52.45 for 10ml & KAYALI MAUI IN A BOTTLE SWEET BANANA – $55.00 for 10ml
NOTES FOR SPARKLING LYCHEE: Top: Litchi, Black Currant, Red Apple, Italian Lemon. Middle: Violet, Rose, Jasmine Sambac. Base: Sugar, Vanilla Absolute, Musk, Amber, Sandalwood, Cedar.
NOTES FOR MAUI IN A BOTTLE : Top: Banana, Pear. Middle: Coconut, Jasmine. Base: Vanilla, Sandalwood
Listen, Kayali had a phenomenal 2024. They had banger launch after banger launch. And picking just one of their perfume quickly became an impossible choice. So, for the first time ever, I have a tie for my second place. Don’t worry, I don’t plan on making a habit of this. But these two were my stand out launches from Kayali.
We’ll start with Eden Sparkling Lychee. This is a very ‘Me’ scent. It’s super sweet and candy-esque. But there is a lightness to it. I often say that I can smell the sparkle whenever I wear it. It’s a perfect choice for those who like fruity scents but find some of Kayali’s other fruity offerings to be a little on the heavy side.
Maui, however, couldn’t be less ‘Me’ coded. I’m not a huge tropical scent girly. And this contains two notes that normally repulse me. Banana and Coconut. But somehow, this works. The Banana note brings a unique sweetness to the top. And the Coconut, paired with the Vanilla, gives a creamy quality to the finish. I genuinely did not expect to love this as much as I do. And I am clamouring for a 50ml.
1ST PLACE: OAKCHA X PAUL REACTSS THAT GIRL VIRAL VANILLA – $91.00USD* for 50ml
NOTES: Top: Caramel, Coconut Milk. Middle: Tonka Bean, Honey. Base: Vanilla, White Musk, Marshmallow, Amber
But if you were following my Instagram in 2024, then you would already know that That Girl Viral Vanilla was going to be my number one for the year. Oakcha and Paul absolutely outdid themselves with this one. It is the vanilla fragrance that I now judge all other vanilla fragrances against. It’s sweet, creamy, bombastic, smooth, velvety. Basically everything I could want in a vanilla gourmand. And if I were to lose all of my perfumes, this would be the one I repurchase first. I mean that with my whole chest. I genuinely can’t wait to see what Oakcha does next.
And those are my top fragrances for the year. I do have one honourable mention that I want to shout out. Marc Jacobs Daisy Pop was the last cut I made. That one is a stunner. As always, let me know what your favourite fragrances from 2024 were in the comments. And coming Tuesday, it’s skincare time!
Cheers and love
