Well folks, it’s taken me longer than I would have liked. But here she is! My review of the new (to Australia, anyway) ELF Soft Glam Satin Foundation. I’ve spent a good, long time playing with this behind the scenes. And I really put it through it’s paces. So, let’s find out how she held up!

ELF COSMETICS SOFT GLAM SATIN FOUNDATION – $18.00 – elfcosmetics.com.au
*36 Shades Available*

We’ll begin as we always do with the packaging. The Soft Glam Foundation is housed in a slim, plastic, squeezy tube style packaging. Think Covergirl Skin Milk packaging (remember that one?). The tube has metallic taupe, black, and white detail. And there is a panel of packaging that is clear so you can see which shade it is. Is it the most luxurious packaging on the planet? No. But it’s sleek and easy to chuck in a makeup bag. And sometimes, that’s all I need. The Soft Glam Foundation is vegan, cruelty free, and contains 30ml of product.

Like most squeezy tube packaging, the dispenser is on the bottom of the tube where the twist on cap is. Now, normally I’m not a fan of this style of packaging because the risk of leaking is high. But The Soft Glam is the exception for me because the foundation consistency has some body to it. And I’m yet to have any leaking issues with it since I started using it.

The Soft Glam Foundation has 36 shades in the range. The shades are divided up into Fair, Light, Mediun, Tan, Deep, and Rich. And they are also divided up between undertones. In a move that impressed me, there was equal distribution between the shades and undertones (six different varieties for each shade). Which for an affordable drugstore foundation is pretty admirable.
For me, I wear shade 25. Described as being Light with Neutral Undertones. It is the deepest shade in the light range. And while it is a shade that works for me, I would say it’s more my Summer shade. I would prefer something a bit lighter come winter.
Like many foundations these days, there are some skin benefits that come with the Soft Glam Foundation. The big one that they are spruking is the 1% Hydrating Hibiscus Complex. Which is said to help hydrate the skin and possibly protect it from environmental stressors. There is also Pomegranate, Blueberry, and Goji Berry Extract, which all go hand in hand with the Hibiscus. Oh well, anything to help my poor, dry skin.

As I mentioned before, the texture of the Soft Glam Foundation was actually thicker than I expected it to be. Which made it so easy to apply. My preferred method was with a beauty sponge (I’m still using the one from Mecca Max). Though it does apply easily with a brush or your fingers. I would take a pea sized amount on my hand, and then rub it into my sponge or brush before applying to the face. This is a technique that I learned from the fabulous Katie Jane Hughes. And it helps apply the foundation so much more evenly than applying the foundation to the face first.
The Soft Glam Foundation is described as being a medium buildable coverage with a satin finish. And on both counts, I have to agree. There is a glow with this foundation. But a subtle one. It makes my skin look healthy without looking overly shiny. As for the finish, yeah, definitely medium. I was able to cover my dark spots, but still have my freckles visible. Overall, first impressions were positive on my end.

But now it’s time for the wear test. And did I ever get the chance to really test this foundation out. You see, Autumn still hasn’t arrived yet here and we’ve still been getting into the 40’s, temp wise. If it isn’t hot, it’s humid (like the day I did the wear test). And if it hasn’t been humid, than I’ve been sick (yeah, little peek behind the curtain, this review was meant to come out a week ago).
All that to say that I’ve been super impressed by the wear of the Soft Glam Foundation. It held on extraordinarily well during this humid streak we’ve been having. The most I had to do was touch up the chin at lunchtime. And it did fade on my forehead a little. But otherwise, the fact that it didn’t completely melt off my face should be applauded. It didn’t sink into my lines, it didn’t crack, it doesn’t emphasise pores. It just looks good!
So, in case you couldn’t tell, this is a pretty glowing review and I do give the Soft Glam Foundation my recommendation. For $18, you can’t go wrong. And best of all, ELF goes on sale pretty often. So you can get this foundation for even cheaper! But it’s one that I reckon you all need to try. Have you tried the ELF Soft Glam Satin Foundation? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
