Out of all of the brands that I’ve tried for this blog, Milk Makeup is the one I’ve had the most mixed results with. Especially their base products. Some of them, like the Jelly Blushes, have gone on to become favourites. And others, like the Flex Foundation Stick I reviewed a few years back, were huge flops. But I’m always on the hunt to try new things from them. So, when I heard some of my fellow bloggers raving about their new Hydro Grip Gel Tint, it quickly landed in my cart. I’ve spent the last few weeks playing with it behind the scenes. And now, it’s time for the review!

MILK MAKEUP HYDRO GRIP GEL TINT – $65.00 – sephora.com.au
*15 Shades Available*

Starting as I always do with the packaging, the Hydro Grip Tint is housed in a midtone blue, squeezy tube style bottle. There is chrome blue green, and clear detail on the bottle itself. The clear section is where you can see the shade. The screw on cap on the bottom of the bottle is the same shade as the bottle itself. I do like the packaging. The colouring is consistent with Milk’s existing Hydro Grip line. And I’m always a sucker for blue packaging. The Hydro Grip Tint is vegan, cruelty free, and contains 35ml of product

The product is dispensed via a long dropper tip at the bottom of the bottle. And like many skin tints with this style of dropper, she can get a little messy. Thankfully, as I mentioned before, the cap is a screw on. And I’ve yet to notice any leaking. I would feel comfortable taking this away on a trip, just from the packaging alone.

The Hydro Grip Tint has 15 shades. And if I’m being really honest, they aren’t as well spread out as I would like them to be. The five lightest shades do look quite similar from the swatches I’ve seen online. For the record, I easily suit Shade 5 – Light with Neutral Undertones, which is a problem in and of itself. And there is a sizable jump from Shade 14 to Shade 15. I know that it’s a skin tint, and therefore lighter coverage. But there should maybe be 2-4 more shades in the lighter and deeper range, in my opinion.

I have to say, right off the bat, I love the feel of the Hydro Grip Tint. It’s the closest I’ve seen to a true gel like consistency. It’s not too thick, not too runny. I can make a pea sized dot on the back of my hand and it’s slow to drip down. All that to say, I can take my time blending it out. As far as blending goes, my preferred method is with a sponge. I found that it gave me the most even finish. When I used my fingers or a brush, I did feel the need to bounce a sponge over to even things out a little bit more.
The Hydro Grip Gel Tint is described as being a buildable light to medium coverage with a natural dewy finish. I agree with the light coverage. It does a good job at covering up what needs to be covered up without looking like too much. But natural dewy? Ain’t no way. She is Glowy with a capital G. The above picture doesn’t do it justice. I am extremely curious to see how my more oily skin friends have fared with this one. Because even I had to hit the base with some powder to reduce the amount of glow I got from this.

Now, let’s talk wear test. And let’s address the elephant in the room. I have no idea why my 5pm picture has me so red. While this skin tint does oxidise a little bit, it’s not this bad. Below is a more accurate depiction of this skin tint after a 10 hour wear day.

Now that we have that out of the way, wow. Milk really did the damn thing. This might be one of the best skin tint’s I’ve tried in a while. Despite it being so glowy, it actually is long wear. I didn’t notice any fading, cracking, or sinking into lines. It even wore well on my forehead. It’s extremely comfortable. It didn’t cause me to break out. It just looks like skin. And I can’t argue with that
To wrap things up, the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Gel Tint gets a massive thumbs up from me and a glowing recommendation. It is 100% worth all of the online hype I’ve seen about it. If you have dry skin, you absolutely need to try this. And if you’re more oily, I would definitely love to hear your thoughts. Have you tried the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Gel Tint?
