Happy Marc Jacobs Beauty Day to those who celebrate (and you better be celebrating, it’s been five goddamn years!)
That’s right, Marc Jacobs Beauty is back home at Sephora as of today. You can now go in store or online and shop the entire range of products. And I couldn’t be more excited if I tried. This launch was highly anticipated and I know will be massive.
Now, in case you missed my post back in July, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on quite a few products from the range. And I’ve spent the last few months really putting them to the test. And today, in honour of the launch, I’m going to share my hits and misses (yes, there are misses) from Marc Jacobs. So you can spend your money wisely. Let’s get into it!
We’ll kick this off with the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY LEGALLY BRONZE BRONZER – $66.00. Now, I am coming to this one with no bias. As I mentioned in my initial haul post, I never did get around to trying the original Omega Bronzer back in the day. And having tried the Legally Bronze, I can say with all honesty that it’s a must buy. This formula is absolutely stunning. So silky smooth and soft, yet easy to build up. I have experienced no patchiness with this formula. It blends like a dream. And the overall wear is extremely impressive. The one thing I will say though is swatch it in store before you purchase if you can. I have the shade Light and it’s a little warmer than I would normally go for. I’ve since seen swatches of Light Medium and I believe that would have been a better match for my skin tone. Otherwise, this is fantastic!
Next on the chopping block is the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY JOYSTICK BLUSH STICKS – $53.00. And in what is probably going to be my most controversial opinion of the day, I do think these are a skip. Obviously, I cannot speak for the whole range of blushes. But speaking only for myself and the shade that I have (Shady Business, btw), I don’t think this formula is anything all that special. I found it to be thin, patchy, a little slippery, and hard to blend out. Once it’s on the cheeks, it does fade away within a few hours (for all of the critiques I’ve seen the Rhode blushes get, at least those wear all day on me). My final gripe is that I wasn’t all that impressed with the shades available. And I am genuinely curious to see if this is a range that gets expanded on in the future. As for right now, the blushes are a pass for me.
Moving onto the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY HEART ON SHINE LIPSTICKS – $52.00, I won’t lie, this one is tough. I do quite enjoy the formula of this lipstick. It’s sheerer than you would expect. But it builds up nicely. I do like the array of shades available. The shade I have, Eat It Up, is a gorgeous cool tone mauve that is fairly unique in my collection. Wear time isn’t the best. There is a bit of slip to this formula and it does wear off quick. Overall, I would say that the price is probably the biggest deterrent as to whether you should buy the lippies. It is an expensive lipstick for what the formula is. If there is a shade that speaks to you, go with god. Otherwise, maybe wait for a sale.
I can keep this one fairly short. I strongly recommend the duochrome shades of the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY BORN STAR CREAM TO POWDER EYESHADOW – $48.00. I have already gushed about Serving (right). Easily one of the most beautiful single shadows I have ever come across. I also quite enjoy Clapback (left). Not quite as unique a shade (red with a green bronze shift). But can be very pretty with the right base put down. It actually pairs nicely with a mauvey matte shade all over the eye. Both shadows have great wear, little to no kickback, and have basically no creasing. I’ll have to keep you posted about the other two formulas. But the duochromes? Without question.
And I can keep this one super short. Because I can just link my review of the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY FLASHES PANORAMIC VOLUME MASCARA – $49.00 here and say buy the mascara immediately!
Lastly, we have the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY DRAWN THIS WAY EYELINERS – $45.00. And again, while this is a very expensive eyeliner, I do have to concede that it’s worth the price. I love how easily they glide along the waterline. They wear so incredibly well. The formula doesn’t irritate my eyes at all. I probably will be buying a few more of these because I am enjoying the formula that much!
