Back in 2021, I reviewed the (at the time) recently launched Rare Beauty Liquid Touch foundation. Now, you can find that review here. But long story short, I was a bit too positive with this foundation even then. And I had always hoped that Rare Beauty would come out with something a bit lighter that I could wear all year round. Fortunately for me, they launched the Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser soon after. And while it took me a little while to get around to playing with it, I finally did this month. I have a ton of thoughts on this bad boy. So, let’s get into the review!
RARE BEAUTY POSITIVE LIGHT TINTED MOISTURISER – $52.00 – sephora.com.au
*24 shades available*
Let us kick start this review by talking about the packaging. The Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser is housed in a soft plastic bottle with a light beige cap and gold detail. The bottle is lightweight and there is a divet on the side for easy gripping. Rare Beauty always nails their packaging and this is no exception. The Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser is vegan, cruelty free and contains 30ml of product.
The Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser is dispensed via a dropper. And I will say that this is is one of the better droppers that I’ve come across recently. The hole is not too wide, not too narrow. I can easily squeeze the bottle without accidentally squeezing out too much. But it doesn’t block up easily either. This is a weird thing to be picky about, I know. But Rare Beauty did it right.
The Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser has 24 shades in the line. It is actually one of the more impressive line ups that I’ve seen for a tinted moisturiser. With a wide array of skin tones and undertones covered. For the first time in a while, I actually have no complaints. This is a great range of shades. For me, I wear shade 14W. Described as being light with warm golden undertones. I was concerned that it was going to be too yellow. But the match actually ended up being pretty spot on.
A new thing that I want to do with these reviews is discuss the formula a little bit. And this one has some interesting ingredients. The Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser contains a botanical blend of Gardenia, White Lily, and Lotus to soothe and nourish the skin. It also has Vitamin E, which is famous for it’s moisturising properties.
I will note that in the US, this is marketed as an SPF tinted moisturiser. And it contains a mix of organic and inorganic filters. I will take this opportunity to tap the *You do not wear enough tinted base products to get sun protection* sign again. Always wear 1/2 teaspoon sunscreen UNDERNEATH your tinted base products. And reapply ever 2 hours.
Applying the Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser was a breeze! My favourite way of applying it was smoothing at all over my face with my hands. And then following that up with a dampened sponge to remove any finger marks. I would use a middle finger length to do my face and neck. And if I wanted more coverage, I would do half a middle finger. Which more often than not, I would do.
The Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser is described as being a light to medium coverage tinted moisturiser with a natural radiant finish. Generally speaking, I would wear this on the lighter side. Enough to even things out. I do love the finish of this. It’s very skin like and comfortable to wear.
Which brings us to the wear test. And I’ll say this right off the bat. This is glowy! So much so that I’m interested in seeing how my more oily skinned friends fare with this one. Because my skin is still kinda on the dry side and I was having to pull out the powder after a few hours. Interestingly, I will say that my oils didn’t really break this down the same way it broke down the foundation. It held on incredibly well without much fading or cracking. And we’ve been hitting the mid 30’s all week. My other makeup wore on top of this extremely well. If I had any complaints, I would say that it sank into the pores around my nose. But that’s probably it.
So yeah, I finally have a base product from Rare Beauty that I can give a ringing endorsement to. The Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser is fantastic and I definitely recommend it if you have normal to dry skin. If you have oily skin, maybe get a sample first and see how it goes. Have you tried the Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers and love
